Going into my final full year at UWEC, I will graduate with a degree in Secondary Education that certifies me to teach Theatre Arts and English. While I first started out in theatre as an actor, appearing in school and community plays as well as movie projects with friends, these past few years I’ve taken more of an interest in working behind the camera. At UWEC, I’ve directed for The Player’s 24 Hour Project as well as for the Spring One Act Play Festival. A few months ago I had my first taste of stage managing as the assistant for UWEC’s production of The Shadow Box. It was during this experience that I met Ben, who later asked me to join the team at SLP. I’m currently serving as the production manager for SLP’s production of Rapt while also stage managing The Glass Menagerie for UWEC. In the future I hope to go to grad school to continue my study of directing and theatre literature.
As a 21-year old English major with an Emphasis in Scientific and Technical Writing and a pending topical minor in Photography, Audio, and Video production, I have always been interested in the creative process and it’s expression within the video medium. Matt and I both attended the same high school and we have been playing around with a camera since we could first get our hands on one. As roommates our freshman year of college, we continued to film randomly for fun, and it was then that we met Ben, another freshman attending UWEC. As time progressed and our projects became steadily more serious and interesting, my role in SLP has taken shape mostly from my interest in Ben’s work and my hope to help facilitate the creative process. While also being involved in the audio and musical aspects of SLP’s projects, as well as logistical and production roles, I remain primarily as an overseer and suggestion maker - as well as the person who says ‘Ben… that my be impossible for us to film’ to his creative and exciting, albeit occasionally unrealistic ideas.
